The Blacktown Exercise and Sports Technology Hub (BEST) in Rooty Hill is a $100M world-class facility, setting new benchmarks in sports performance and community health. With a striking contemporary design, inspired by global cultures, the project posed unique engineering challenges—brilliantly solved with Fielders SlimDek 210®.
Fielders’ in-house engineering team, led by National Engineering Manager Marko Stankovic, developed a highly efficient structural steel design featuring 3,000m² of SlimDek 210® composite flooring. This innovative system allowed for large unpropped spans, reducing construction complexity and ensuring faster project delivery. Advanced BIM modelling enabled each sheet to be precision roll-formed to millimetre accuracy, allowing for seamless installation by Santana Stud Welding.
The collaboration between Fielders, Buildcorp, and Adams Engineering played a critical role in overcoming design complexities. Early engagement in design meetings allowed for real-time structural solutions, reducing on-site clashes and improving safety outcomes. Jack Huang, Fielders’ Business Development Manager, provided continuous technical support, ensuring smooth execution from design to installation.
SlimDek 210® was selected for its unmatched advantages—reducing propping requirements, freeing up lower levels for fit-out, and significantly improving construction efficiency. “The system exceeded expectations in performance and quality,” said Mark Wu of Adams Engineering, emphasizing its role in delivering the project’s ambitious design.
Now open, BEST Hub is a game-changer for Western Sydney’s sports and health sectors, catering to elite athletes, sports science research, and allied health services. Fielders continues to push the boundaries of innovation, proving that if it can be imagined, it can be created.
