Empowered Women in Trades has been awarded the prestigious title of Champion in the Social Enterprise Business category at the 2024 Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards, held at The Star Sydney on Saturday, August 24th. This accolade marks a significant achievement in the third consecutive year of the awards, which celebrate the remarkable contributions of women-led small businesses across Australia.
This event is the largest celebration of women in small business in the country, showcasing the diverse and dynamic impact of female entrepreneurs. Empowered Women in Trades (EWIT), a trailblazer in revolutionising the trades industry by creating a future where women and non-binary people are empowered, represented and thriving in skilled trades careers, stood out among thousands of entrants across more than 65 categories, ranging from retail to manufacturing.
In her passionate acceptance speech, Hacia Atherton, Founder and CEO of Empowered Women in Trades said “Australia was once a world champion in Women’s Rights. We were the first country to give women the dual rights to vote and stand for parliament. Let’s get the representation of women and non-binary people in skilled trades from 3% to 30% and as Australians champion women again.”
The awards, meticulously judged by an independent panel of experts, recognised EWIT for its outstanding contributions to the social enterprise sector. The organisation was honoured with a trophy, a winner’s certificate, and invaluable acclaim as a nationally recognised industry leader.
“We are deeply honoured to receive this award and to be recognised among such a distinguished group of women-led businesses,” said Hacia. “This accolade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team and the incredible women we support in the trades industry. It’s an affirmation of our mission to create sustainable economic opportunities and drive social change through our programs.”
The Australian Women’s Small Business Champion Awards aim to shine a spotlight on the economic, cultural, and social contributions of female-led small businesses, in both capital cities as well as rural and regional towns across the nation. This year’s event drew a significant number of participants, reflecting the growing impact of women entrepreneurs in diverse sectors.
